My Top 10 Favourite Flowers I’m Growing This Year

One of the joys of running a small flower farm is falling head over heels for new blooms each season—and, of course, rediscovering old favourites that never fail to make my heart skip a beat! This year, my cutting beds are packed with some absolute beauties, and I thought I’d share my top 10 favourites I’m growing right now.

Whether you’re a fellow grower, a flower lover, or just here for a little petal-filled inspiration, I hope you enjoy this peek behind the scenes!

1. Ranunculus – The Ruffled Romance

These are the supermodels of spring—elegant, layered, and endlessly photogenic. I’m growing soft blush, classic white, and a bold dark pink this year, and they’re already stealing the show at the stand.

2. Zinnias – The Summer Cheerleaders

Nothing shouts summer quite like a vibrant zinnia! They’re brilliant for adding a bold pop of colour to bouquets and are absolute workhorses in the cutting garden. Plus, the bees love them!

3. Sweet Rocket – The Unsung Hero of Scent

Often overlooked, but not by me! Sweet Rocket brings a soft, delicate scent and a cloud of tiny blooms that fill gaps perfectly in arrangements. And those tall, airy stems? Simply dreamy.

4. Sunflowers – The Joy Makers

Is there anything happier than a sunflower? This year, I’m growing both the classic cheerful yellows and some more sophisticated pale varieties like ProCut White and Peach. They make such a statement in market bunches.

5. Peonies – The Ultimate Luxury Bloom

Peonies have completely stolen my heart (and everyone else’s too!). Their big, blousy blooms and soft, romantic petals are impossible to resist. Whether it’s the delicate blush of ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ or rich raspberry tones, they bring pure magic to any bouquet.

6. Cornflowers – The Perfect Pop of Blue

Every bouquet needs a little touch of blue, and cornflowers deliver it in style. They’re dainty, charming, and just keep blooming if you keep cutting. A true British classic!

7. Stocks – The Scented Showstopper

If you’ve ever walked past my stand and caught the most incredible scent, chances are it was from my stocks. Beautiful and fragrant, they’re a must-have for early bouquets.

8. Roses – The Timeless Classic

You simply can’t beat the romance of a rose. Whether it’s an old-fashioned, heavily scented variety or something with a more modern twist, roses bring elegance and charm to every bouquet. Their scent, their beauty, and their symbolism… they’ll always have a special place in my heart (and my garden!).

9. Lisianthus – The Long-Lasting Beauty

Lisianthus is a bit of a diva to grow, but oh, she’s worth it! With her delicate, rose-like blooms and incredible vase life, she’s fast becoming one of my top picks for elegant arrangements.

10. Dahlias – The Late-Season Stars

While they’re still just getting going, I couldn’t leave dahlias off this list. They’ll take centre stage later in the season, and every year I fall in love with their outrageous colours and bold forms all over again.

Are any of these on your favourites list too? I’d love to hear what flowers you’re loving right now—pop over to my Instagram [@evieandflothesudburyflowerfarm] and let me know!

And don’t forget—if you’re dreaming of filling your home with some of these beauties all summer long, our Summer Flower Subscription is now open for early access!

Here’s to a season full of beautiful blooms!

With love,
Caroline x
