There’s nothing quite like a bunch of fresh, locally grown tulips to brighten your home – and with just a little bit of care, your blooms can stay looking their best for even longer.

Here’s our simple guide to keeping your Evie & Flo tulips happy once you bring them home:

1. Start with a Clean Vase

Always begin with a squeaky-clean vase – tulips are sensitive to bacteria, so give your vase a good wash with hot, soapy water before filling it with cool, fresh water.

2. Trim the Stems

Cut each stem at an angle using a clean, sharp knife or scissors. This gives them a larger surface area to drink from. If they’ve been out of water for a little while, a fresh cut helps them perk up more quickly.

3. Less is More (Water-wise!)

Unlike many flowers, tulips don’t need a deep vase of water. About 5–7cm is perfect. Too much water can make the stems go soft and bendy more quickly.

4. Keep Them Cool

Tulips prefer a cooler spot out of direct sunlight and away from radiators or fruit bowls (ripening fruit gives off ethylene gas that can shorten their vase life). They’ll last longer in a chillier room.

5. Let Them Sway

One of the most charming things about tulips is that they continue to grow and move in the vase – dancing towards the light and sometimes bending dramatically. Embrace their personality – it’s all part of their charm!

6. Refresh Every Few Days

Change the water every couple of days and trim the stems again if needed. This will keep your tulips looking fresh for longer.

A Little Extra Tip:

If you like your tulips standing upright, wrap them tightly in paper and pop them in cool water for an hour before arranging – this can help straighten them out before display.
