Why DIY Event Buckets, Part Service & Full Service Flowers Could Be the Perfect Choice for Your Next Celebration
At Evie & Flo – The Sudbury Flower Farm, we believe flowers have the power to transform a moment. They soften spaces, bring fragrance and colour, and create an atmosphere that lingers in memory long after the last guest has gone home. Whether you are planning something intimate or a grand occasion, flowers help mark the moment as special.
One of the most exciting occasions is, of course, a wedding! Flowers have always been at the heart of weddings – from bouquets and buttonholes to arches and table flowers – they set the scene and make the day feel truly unforgettable.
But weddings aren’t the only milestones that deserve flowers. Proposals (think Travis Kelce’s proposal to Taylor Swift… Total swoon and those flowers!!), engagements, birthdays, baby showers, gender reveals, christenings, corporate events, and even farewells are all made more meaningful when surrounded by seasonal blooms. Whatever the occasion, flowers are the finishing touch that turn gatherings into memories.
The wonderful thing is that there isn’t just one way to include flowers in your celebration. That’s why we offer three flexible approaches: DIY Event Buckets, Part Service, and Full Service. Each has its own charm, and choosing the right one depends on how you imagine your day, the level of involvement you’d like, and your budget.
DIY Event Buckets – For the Creatives at Heart
DIY event buckets are perfect for anyone who loves to get hands-on and create something personal. We’ll harvest and curate a selection of fresh seasonal flowers, filling a bucket (or 10!) With the colours and textures of the moment. From there, it’s over to you.
Some couples enjoy using buckets to make jam jar table flowers for their wedding, while others gather friends to create bouquets the night before. We’ve also seen DIY buckets become the highlight of baby showers, where guests have fun making their own little arrangements, or even feature in proposals and engagements, where personal touches make the moment unforgettable.
DIY buckets are cost-effective, interactive, and wonderfully personal. They don’t just decorate your event – they create an experience in themselves.
Part Service – A Helping Hand
If you like the idea of being involved but don’t want the pressure of handling everything yourself, part service offers the best of both worlds. You still enjoy the creativity of arranging some of your own flowers, but the most important elements are created professionally by myself or our trusted florists.
For weddings, this might mean the bridal bouquet and buttonholes are taken care of, while you and your loved ones arrange the tables. For a christening, you might prefer to have the focal arrangement made by a florist while family contribute jam jars or bud vases. At a farewell, it could mean the main tribute is designed with care while smaller arrangements are made by relatives.
This option is collaborative, flexible, and often creates beautiful moments of togetherness.
Full Service – Sit Back & Enjoy
For those who prefer to relax and let everything be handled, our full service flowers are the perfect choice. Working with our talented florist partners, we’ll design and deliver everything you need – from bouquets and buttonholes to large-scale installations.
Full service is especially suited to weddings where flowers are central to the theme, but it’s also perfect for corporate events, launches, milestone birthdays, and memorials where families would rather focus on being present than on logistics. You share your colours, theme, or inspiration, and then simply enjoy seeing everything come together seamlessly.
Seasonal & Sustainable Flowers
Everything we grow or source is seasonal, sustainable, and British-grown. That means your flowers are always fresh, unique, and tied to the time of year.
Because we work with the seasons, we usually offer colour palettes and themes rather than promising specific varieties. For example, you might ask for “soft blush pastels with natural texture” or “vibrant, joyful brights,” and we’ll bring that vision to life using what’s blooming at the moment.
Of course, if you have your heart set on something specific that we don’t grow or have enough of – peonies for a June wedding, sunflowers for a late-summer birthday, or ranunculus for spring engagements – we’ll always do our best to source them from our trusted British grower network. But at the heart of Evie & Flo is a celebration of seasonality, sustainability, and flowers that feel authentic to their time and place.
What Flowers to Expect Month by Month
Here’s a guide to what’s usually in bloom, though exact varieties may shift depending on the season and weather. We work to colour palettes and textures first, and will always try to source specific flowers if they’re important to you.
March – April
Tulips, narcissus, ranunculus, anemones, hyacinths, blossom branches, early foliage. Soft pastels and fresh spring tones bring a light, delicate feel.
May – June
Peonies, alliums, sweet peas, delphiniums, foxgloves, stocks, cornflowers. A season of romance, fragrance, and classic English garden charm.
July – August
Dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos, snapdragons, phlox, ammi, rudbeckia. Summer is bold and abundant – vibrant colours and cheerful textures take centre stage.
September – October
Dahlias, chrysanthemums, asters, grasses, amaranthus, hydrangeas. Autumn brings a rich, warm palette with depth, drama, and beautiful foliage.
November – February
The field rests, but we can sometimes offer winter foliage, berries, and dried flowers. For weddings and events in these months, we source from other trusted British farms.
Planning Your Event with Us
When you get in touch, it helps us to know a few key details. The date of your event tells us what’s in bloom, while the type of celebration – wedding, proposal, engagement, birthday, christening, corporate launch, or farewell – helps us shape the style of your flowers. Sharing your colour palette or theme, along with your budget, allows us to recommend the most suitable option.
It’s also useful to know the key pieces you’d like, and how many: for example, bridal bouquets, bridesmaid flowers, buttonholes, table arrangements, statement installations, sympathy tributes, or simple jam jars. Venue details matter too, especially if flowers will be displayed outdoors or in a large, open space.
And finally, let us know how involved you’d like to be. Do you want the joy of arranging some yourself, or would you rather sit back and let us handle every detail?
If you get in contact now, we can even grow flowers specifically with your special day in mind. This means your celebration won’t just be seasonal and sustainable – it will be truly personal, with stems nurtured from seed to bloom just for you.
